Out with 2016 and my woes

girl-meets-brooklyn-2016Looking back on 2016 with relief that it’s coming to an end. It was an interesting year, had its ups and downs, and wasn’t particularly my best year, but these tough times is what helps me learn and grow. It was tough losing my grandma this year but it meant the world to me to be able to fly to Ohio to spend time with her before her passing, and to see my distant relatives. Memories and time is what I have come to appreciate and cherish this year and I hope in the new year to really be present in the moment, especially with family and friends.

It’s no surprise that I have taken a backseat on the blog, and while there is no real excuse for it, I lost sight of why I started the blog in the first place. I wanted an outlet to share my travels, outfits, whatever came to mind, and I wanted Girl Meets Brooklyn to be a source of inspiration. Instead I fell into the all too familiar trap of comparing myself to others, especially those that I follow on social media that seem to live the “perfect” lives. It’s no wonder why we look for validation of our photos’ worth by how many likes we have or how many followers we gain. That being said another goal in the new year is to stop looking at other people’s successes and comparing them to my own. As Theodore Roosevelt proclaimed, “comparison is the thief of joy”, so I will keep that in mind the next time I try to judge myself based on what other people have.

I also want not only to set goals, but to accomplish them as well.  Thank you to all those that have continued reading the blog, for all of your support. Hope you all have a wonderful New Year!

xx

Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New Year!
Your Grandmother would have loved your Teddy Roosevelt quote. I miss her too. :-(
